Default Serious Misfiring

My car has been misfiring for the last couple months or so. It runs fine when its cold, but as it warms up it starts to misfire. By the time it gets totally warmed up its misfiring like crazy anytime the engine is under load.

Any ideas?

The misfiring is the worst below 3k rpm. Above 3k some of the misfiring goes away, but it still runs like i'm towing an anchor.

Replacing the spark plugs seemingly fixed the problem(obviously not really) for about 800-1000 miles, then the misfiring came back.

Paying for college is strain enough on my wallet, so i would rather not have pay someone $200 to tell me it was a $20 sensor.

Your help is greatly appreciated.
Ken

I would first remove the chassey ground wires and clean the lugs and the surface where they attach to. Pay especial attention to the ones on the shock towers and the firewall. If that doesn't cure it then I suspect the coil pack.

Bad O2 sensors usually get a CEL rather quickly but, no one said anything about a cel.

Can anyone explain why replacing the spark plugs would temporarily fix the problem if it were caused by coil pack or O2 sensor or something else?
