An exhaust shop could probably do it for you for under $100. How hard is it to earn 100 dollars?

You might experience some issues with the angle of the pipe. I had an STi axleback on my RS for a while, then took it off. I plan on taking it to a muffler shop to bend the piping, but I have been lagging it for the longest time. I'll probably sell it and go back to stock. Here's how it looked.

I'm guessing that angle is due to the difference in the angle of the flange???
I've seen a lot of people that replace the midpipe when adding an STI exhaust as well, most go resonatorless. I wonder how that'd sound, any drone at all?? hhugale, How did you like the sound of it while you had it? Bill |

You got it Bill. The angle of the STi flange is slightly different from the RS flange. The exhaust had a good low end rumble. It's not really that loud and sounded good. Then the rumble dissipates at the high end.

I had it installed on my 01rs and it went on very nice, the only mod that they had to do was re weld the flange at a different angle. it cost 1 hrs labour. so what ever the shop labour is thats all it would cost. as far as sound it has a nice deep rumble to it.

What did you two do about the midpipe, leave it stock or have a custom one fabricated? If you had a custom one made did you go with a resonator and which one?
I had a custom catback installed on my '04 RS that consisted of a Magnaflow resonator, Borla ProXS muffler/tip, and 2.25" internal piping diameter throughout. The thing droned like a beaotch inside the car and I wasn't a happy camper. I'd like to avoid that, hence the reason I chose a stock STI axleback. I just want something a little more aggressive sounding than the stock RS muffler while retaining a stock look. Bill |

I had the STi exhaust connected to the stock midpipe. It worked fine for me.

wrx and sti flanges have the same angle, rs and ts are different.
pipe diameter are also different. have the muffler shop hack and rotate the midpipe or the axle back (take your pick) weld and your good to go. i have a wrx axle back on my ts. just love the low rumble sound and stealth looks. |
