Default Weird loss of throttle

Ok... I've got a strange one here. It's happend occasionally over the past 3 or so years, but has been getting worse as of late.

Here's what happens... I'll be driving along, highway or city streets, and I lose all throttle response. If I push the clutch in long enough for the RPMs to drop below 1500 or so, the car will stall. I have to shut off the car completely, and start it again to get moving again, and it'll be fine for a random period of time, usually measuring in days or weeks.

It feels similar to fuel starvation when the problem occurs.

I've replaced the MAF and cleaned the IAC, with no results.

Any ideas???

Almost sounds like a loose wire somewhere.

Hmm... how do I go about troubleshooting something like that? Just start shaking the looms while the car is running, hoping that the problem happens?

Thanks!

Clogged fuel filter?....I would think that would cause more frequent fuel starvation......but its a guess.

Heh, at 260k miles God only knows what's wrong... I say junk it or take it to a shop before you cause an accident. Otherwise it's really not worth the trouble, IMO.

Well, you've had it for at least the past 3 years, what kind of maintenance have you done? I believe you're supposed to change the fuel filter every 60K miles or so. What about the pre-pump filter? might check that out too. or stick a fuel pressure gauge on and look at it whilst running the engine.

Unnecessary post... don't you know there are subarus and many other cars that go above 300 thousand miles, running just fine...

anyway.. I'd start by looking in the engine compartment for frayed wires, bad grounds, anything like that... There are a ton of things it could be.. Is the check engine light coming on when this happens?

I have a hunch that it could be your ignition switch.. Try jiggling the keys when it happens, or quickly switching the engine off then on again. like, within 1 second, switch the ignition to accessory, then back to on. (not "start")
