Arrow Can't decide on car/engine combo, HELP!!

So, I drove my buddies 04 WRX a couple times and fell in love with the handling, awd, and turbo. Then i went to a car meet with him, and a stock 2dr RS caught my eye. Already bought one new car this year, and can't bring myself to get another (new wrx) so i want to get a 2dr impreza and swap in a EJ20.

I've been reading every post on the boards for about 2 weeks now doing research here and all over the internet, and i have decided that i have NO idea what year car or what engine i should do.

To be honest i would love to convert to RHD and do a JDM swap, but i'm nervous about spending that much money on a clip with 40-50k miles.

So i started thinking USDM, and now i'm just lost.

I have no car, and i have no engine. All i know is i want a 2dr L with a EJ turbo engine.

Starting with nothing like i am, what is the best year for the L, and what engine should i use? I've built/swapped cars before so wiring and swapping isn't a huge deal (i'd like wiring to be as basic as possible though), its just getting my info straight on what car/engine combo to run. Theres just way to many combos out there to choose from.

ahhhh help.

PS. I saw a posting in the for sales of a 2003 WRX EJ20 w/ low miles, a 1.8 5spd trans, and 2002 wiring harness for like 3,000. is that a good dealy to start with and then look for a 1996+ car???

WTF? YES! I am
better than you!

You can swap a JDM wrx EJ20 into a LHD car. No issues.

Any EJ20 will work just try to find one from a reputable seller.

You can usually fing a whole drive line or a front clip for a reasonable price.

Wirelessly posted (Treo 600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 95; PalmSource; Blazer 3.0) 16;160x160)

The wiring is the only sticking point in any EJ swap.

I say take a trip to Japan, GB, or Austrailia and bring home a GC8 STi

I actually have a contact that can bring a car over and have it reg'd for the US. dunno about that.

So, should i just hold out for a good front clip and pop it into a pre-96 L? what year front clip? i think i read about one that was like 270hp and closed deck, that sounds like a good building block, but i'm sure that engine would come with a premium or rediculasly high miles.

most clips i have seen are low miles. i believe the way taxes are set up over there they encourage people to get newer cars so cars dont really rack up the miles.

i think the closed deck blocks were ej20g which are the older versions, 10 years old or more.

search around this site, tons of info on the jdm sti/wrx. they are all around 270+ hp unless they are wagons which are rated lower, 240 i think?

EJ20G is very nice. Get one and then build the major monster you want.

check swapstars and supermooses posts. he gets clips etc. and has knowledge of different swap options.
if you emissions test, pre 96 is the way to go(they think its not obd2), no rollers, just sniffer! im doin it this way for the exact reason mentioned.
