Default obx headers

I was wondering if anyone that istalles a set of the obx headers are getting a check engine light as a result of it? Are the bungs in the cats long enough to get rid of the code?

You will get a CEL from almost any aftermarket header.

To this day I haven't had a CEL related to the O2 or the cat with my OBX header and mine has been on since October. I guess it depends on the car.

i was wondering...what if you keep your rear CAT and move the rear o2 sensor BEHIND the 2nd cat....wonldnt that get rid of the CEL from the lack of a 1st/header cat? only reason i ask is because im going to get aftermarket headers w/o a cat and would like to know if my theory is valid or BS.

i too would like to know, if we get the OBX header (which has the O2 bung on the wrong spot), and get a HFC from magnaflow with 2 O2 bungs on the cat; could we plug the bung on the header and use the 2 bungs on the HFC? also would like to know if the cat has to be welded in a certin direction or could it be mounted in any direction?

thanks

if u were thinking about getting an OBX header, u can't use ur cat pipe b/c the OBX eliminates it.

I just picked up an OBX header off Ebay and have it sitting in my garage waiting to be installed. I'm curious/confused, how is the O2 sensor bung in the "wrong spot"? I see one in the collector, and then a second in the aft end of the resonator (which is made to look like a hi-flow cat) in the short "track pipe" or whatever you want to call it. Is there something I'm missing?

Anyone have an answer to the "bung in the wrong place" issue? I'm still curious.

I think the issue was not so much the part of the header but the orientation. I think that it is on the top of the header, say 12 o'clock, and the heat shield interferes with it, where as the ideal location would be 8 o'clock.

Header wrap will eliminate most CEL issues associated with headers. I've been running my ebay-borla-knockoff headers for about a year, not a single CEL.

OBX's eBay listing for the headers currently says "factory O2 sensor location," so maybe they caught wind of fitment issues and fixed it?

I too am thinking of EL headers. TWE's unfortunately are the only ones that maintain the stock cat location, and also cost nearly a thousand clams.
RalliTEK has no fitment issues, but bought from the same SEMA supplier that OBX did. So they seem to be very much the same header...

...save for fitment problems. That maybe are fixed now. Maybe...?

RalliTek = OBX

Yes, there are no fitment issue on these 2.

1st O2 located in the "Y".

2nd O2 located in the small straight pipe, after the resonator (which looks like a CAT).

I replaced that (resonator + O2) with a HFC, also put in a new O2 right after the HFC.
The wiring of the rear (2nd) O2 need to be extended as well.

Mechanical CEL fix also put in.

Mechanical CEL fix (PDM bung extension) hasn't done squat for me, so far. **shrug** Depends on the car I guess.

Yes I know they're basically the same header, mentioned that in an earlier post.

But the OBX ones, at least a while ago, had fitment issues. The question is whether that's been fixed by OBX or not.

I've got the OBX header on my 2000 RS. Since the header eliminates both cats (yes, your car has two) don't be too surpised if you get CEL P0420 - cat inefficiency. I tried splicing a low pass filter into my rear O2 to clear-up the CEL - didn't work. Two thoughts.

Live with the warm glow of your CEL and check your codes weekly with a scanner. Or put tape over the light and check for codes weekly.

Some of the later cars are less prone to P0420 when fitted with Borla headers (keeps the second cat). The OBX, as you get it, is completely catless.

If I go with an OBX or RalliTEK, I'll remove the cat-delete pipe's resonator and weld in a high-flow cat and O2 bung.
