Fuel issues (OMG, teh pump!)
Okay, LOOONG night... I got stuck in the snow, buried my car up to the axles. However, the front sub frame was on the snow, mostly the front bumper, but the body of the car wasn't. Exhaust, transmission, oil pan, etc were all clear of the snow.
Took me 2 hours to dig out, but I got it out. Once it was out of the snow, the car started bucking under acceleration, actually it didn't accelerate. Stepping on the gas killed it. Then it woudln't even idle right. Then it just plain wouldn't start, it turned over but never fired up. So, we got a tow. From the top of Mt. Ashland. It took another 2 hours for the f tow truck to show up. So, what's the deal? pinched fuel line? Fuel pump kicked the bucket? Melted injectors? crap, I hate spending money.

I'm assuming you've reset the ECU to see if that fixes it?
How did you bury the car in the snow? Was it a jarring impact kind of thing? I know on some (all?) vehicles there's some sort of impact relay that will trip the fuel pump to keep it from running after an accident. Perhaps in the process of getting stuck in the snow, or maybe trying to jar the car loose, you tripped that? I honestly don't know how it resets on a Subaru, or if it even exists. I'd first check that the air cleaner element is not clogged with snow.

Resetting the ECU wouln't have helped, it wasn't sudden... Quote:
I did get the car back. The pump died of old age. There was a huge dent in my gas tank, but it did not effect the pump at all. The car even sounds different now, and there isn't an annoying pop from the exhaust anymore. No more misfires, either. |
