Easy: Buy the GT!

I don't know about the shifter, but I know the stock suspension is lower and tighter on the GT.

Cool

If you are going to use the car just for transportation then get the outback, but if you want to put some mods on the car then I agree with andy and get the GT. There is VERY limited aftermarket for subarus, mostly imprezas and a few things for the Legacy. But I don't think there will be anything for the Legacy outback. You might be able to get the SYMS short throw shifter to fit the outback but I don't know. Check out www.spdusa.com and read through that site. He is really good about answering questions! If you want a performance car then I would say get the Impreza RS now or wait for a year until the (rumored) turbo Impreza and or the 6 cl Legacy comes out. Just my .02

Question improving Outback Drive feel

I just took an Outback for a drive. I think it's going to fit my needs pretty well, but the shifter and suspension feel positively SQUISHY compared to my 94 Talon.

Surely you guys don't like this. What do you do about it?
