EZ30 non-R questions...
I have done some searching and know a bit about the EZ30D and EZ30R engines.
What I don't know is the history and any revisions to the EZ30D during it's 2-3 year USDM span before the R came into the picture. What I'm trying to find out is if the non-R EZ30 ever came with tripple exhaut port heads in the US. I have been thinking alot about an EZ30 swap with a mild N/A build into my wife's Legacy and when I proposed the idea to her, she really liked it over an FXT/WRX swap.It will be mated to a 5 speed as she hates automatic transmissions. I know there is more room with a turbo for power, but she doesn't need a whole lot and 240-250 N/A is going to feel better and be more useable for her driving style than a turbo. Don't bother trying to sell me on a turbo swap either, I want to do something different and N/A. So can anyone in the know help me out with finding if triple port heads ever came on the EZ30D? I have plans for intake, mild cams, mild head work, a multi-angle valve job, and a header but all of this work wouldn't truely be as benifical if it's running out a single port head. Plus I'm anxious to work with my welding buddy and develop a nice header for the engine as well (triple port). Thanks in advance for your time. All input greatly appreciated. BTW, those looking for engine specs and some interesting info this is a decent read: So whats mods do we have for the EZ3.0 h6? Want to see swap details of an EZ30D into an Impreza? Click Here

Is anyone even reading my post?
JJ thanks for the link, but they seem to only deal with EJ series motors. Flanders, thanks for the info, but if you read my post you'd realize I'm asking (as my subject says) non-R EZ30 questions and have little to no desire to mess with the EZ30R at this time. Can anyone read my post and answer my questions? All help greatly appreciated. |

I've been looking for the same info. I did read a thread somewhere about 6 months ago with info on a company aftermarket internals for all subie engines including ez30 seems it was a place in the UK or Down Under. I can't for the life of me find it now.
Where did you get the b4 hood on the wife's car? |

No, the EZ30D never had tripple ports, only single ports. The EZ30-R was when the tripple port design came out.
If you wanted to, you might be able to run the EZ30-R without the AVCS... |

I may be wrong, but I think the EZ30 can only mate up to the automatic transmission, as the bellhousing, to save space so it could fit in the Legacys, is too small to fit a flywheel/clutch combo needed for a manual tranny.

rsk135 - Aftermarket internals shouldn't be that hard to source at all for an EZ30*. As for the hood, it is a stock USDM Baja Turbo hood. A bolt on direct fit since the Baja = Legacy. I personally think the special JDM Legacy GT-B E-Tune front bumper is much cooler than the hood, but few realize exactly what it is.
Kostamojen - Thank you, that is what I wanted to know. Don't think it's worth it if I had an EZ30R to not use the AVCS though. Hondah8er - Sorry, but you are wrong. People have done this, infact one of my links above proves that it can be mated to a 5 speed, was done in an impreza no less. They will bolt up to most any standard Subaru manual transmission, only issue is alignment pins and that you won't use all of the holes on the engine to bolt it to a manual. Thanks for the unfortunate news. This will definetly change a few things as I don't think the gains I'm looking for from the head/cams will be as significate with the current non-R heads. Anyone have shots of the inside design of the EZ30D heads? That would be something interesting to see. Last edited by omahasubaru; 02-12-2006 at 08:29 PM. |

Yep, I hate you. WHY did you have to bring back that thread in your link.
You just put my brain back on boil for a h6 swap For the past few weeks after watching phats h6 in the works and the STi running a h6 turbo...I think we are on the edge of new H6 developed parts. Unfortunally most are boost oriented. I'm gonna be doing a lot of searching tonight with my AUS friends in hand, to see what he can help bring out from the depths of their boards. Unfortunally I think the 6 banger is semi uncharted land. Sorry for the worthless post but you have another N/A brother looking for answers about the h6(still).. I hope to start mine once I find a good chasis (i'm thinking svx actually..but pulling out the 3.3 for the new 3.0s) |

there was a ez30 on ebay 2 days ago pulled from wreck with a spun bearing
it was pulled apart. I won the bid but not the reserve. Emailed him and he said $300 but i passed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEDW%3AIT item # 8035769492 It'll cost more to ship it to one of you guys then what he's asking for it. I think its a good start for someone, but perhaps not if you plan on going turbo or using any of the possible parts mentioned above. |
