Default 2006 Impreza 2.5i...?

I was looking for a while, on here and web...I dont know if the new Impreza has a different engine since last year(pretty new to the Impreza scene).
I was wondering if they have any modifications for the 2.5i engine...isn't it the same as the wrx? well besides being factory turboed and sohc vs dohc...any mods...thanks..

and obviously if its a new engine for the 2.5i hopefully in a year or so they come out with some...thanks again.

I think the engine is the same, just upgraded. They've added Variable Valve Timing which gave it and extra 8 hp, about 6 more lb/ft of torque, and I believe it has a lowered torque peak too. I bought one about a month and a half ago and it has more low end torque than anything I've ever driven. It's very responsive and really likes accelerating. There are other upgrades to the 2.5i as well, including Electronic Throttle Control (drive-by-wire), Electronic Brake Distribution, Speed Sensative Steering, more air bags, better seats (real nice seats!), outside temperature gauge, side mirror defrosters, 2 pot front calipers (don't know if those are new), very light weight aluminum hood, and probably a few other things I'm not remembering. There's also the new front end and new tail lights, but that's still a contraversial issue. I don't mind the back end, and the front end doesn't bother me as much anymore. I haven't seen too many after market parts of any kind for it yet. SubieGal's SubaruGenuineParts website does have some very nice OEM stuff for it though, and I'll be placing an order as soon as my tax check gets here. The car is a blast to drive as it is, and I know once I get my first set of mods done (rear sway bar, tires, cat-back, panel filter) I will be quite satisfied with it for a while, and it's also very nice knowing you can spank any light to moderatly modded civic out there!! I even beat a Dodge Ram 1500 the other day!!

When it comes to engine mods not many things will work on a 2.5i from a WRX or STi as you're talking Naturally Aspirated vs. Turbo motors.

As stated above, they did make some significant changes from last year's RS. The variable valve timing and equal length headers gave it a boost in power and a better power curve as well. Bone stock it feels faster than my '04 RS that had a Cobb CAI and custom 2.25" catback.

Most of us "RS" owners find the power to be enough for fun on a back road and address handling mods first. Tires, wheels, springs, struts, sway bars, end links, etc.

You get less bang-for-your-buck when trying to increase power compared to suspension mods in my experience.

the engines are different, the wrx has different pistons and crankshaft and the heads are still different, i don't know if wrx pistons and crank will fit, it's possible but i don't think anyone's done it yet(06 into 06)

Does the 2.5i have seats that fold down in the back? This is the only thing about my STi that drives me crazy!!!

According to Cars101, they do not.. just the pass thru.

The older impreza seatbacks can be fitted, though. You may have some sort of support brace behind your seats, check that before committing to anything.

Ahhh yes, the doggie door. When you get your new car questionaire make sure and complain about it, instead of disposing of it . I did on mine. I would think sometime around 2008 they should fold down.

Well of course they'll fold down in '08, the year of the Impreza hatchback!!!

No 60/40 back seat is probably in the top 5 of "Things I Don't Like About My Subie" but then again if it was that important to me I could have bought a HondUH.
