Cool Confirmed!! 6cyl. GT for 2001

yes boyz - it's true.....

My dealer (a very reliable source) says they received confirmation TODAY that there will be a 6 cyl. avail in 2001 for Legacy GT/Forester models only.

Turbo option for the Impreza RS model only.

So who's gonna trade theirs in???? Sorry, but i am gonna keep my 'lil 4-banger....i do so love him. Maybe i'll divorce my hubby and marry the car!

Hi - I'm new here. I'm considering the 2001 GT Wagon, and I am really excited to hear the H6 will be available in the GT. I was afraid Subaru would do something dumb like limit it to the Outback the first year.

Have you heard if a 5 speed will be available with the H6?

What "reliable" dealer gave you that info? - I live near Everett WA and am gathering inputs about area dealers. There are a few real losers here - I want to find a good one.

I drove a Mazda 323 GTX AWD Turbo for 10 years, and am ready for another performance AWD car - the H6 Legacy looks like a great replacement!

I doubt that we'll see a stick-shift. At least at first. The car mags that I read mentioned that an automagic only will be offered with the 6, then a manual if interest is expressed. The tranny mounting is said to be different from the current engines, so the engine won't be backward-compatable with the current 5 spd.

But, I believe (and this is just my own supposition) that the GT will eventually see the turbo engine that the Impreza is getting, and that one will have a stick.

By the by, I met a guy last week with an '00 GT sedan. The model name on his car only said 'GT', not '2.5' GT like on my '98. Is this a precursor to a '2.9 GT' or 'GT-B'?

Well, I guess I could stand an automatic behind the H6. I don't have any real complaints about the 2000 automatic, but I do prefer to row through the gears myself. I sure wish Subaru would offer the SportShift auto from the RSK B4. I have driven an A4 Quattro Tiptronic (the Audi guys call them "Q Tips") and it is fun and controllable. The switches on the wheel look like gimmicks at first, but being able to shift on twisty roads without removing your hand from the wheel is delightful.
