Default LM1 users - did you have trouble with the serial interface?

I have firmware 1.41 LM1 and I can't for the life of me get connected to the serial interface.

Another LM1 worked fine on my laptop. COM1 is regular DB9.

I've tried a dekstop system too, same result. I get "serial interface" come up on the LM1 LCD then nothing.

The o2 side of it works fine reading the proper AFR in the display.

I purchased it from a NASIOC member in the private for sale forum, the o2 sensor looked unused and all the packaging indicated someone took a peek then boxed it up again. Like new.

Any thoughts?
