Default Will a '95 L 5MT swap into my '98 L 4EAT??

I know the answer is anything is possible. But will it be plug and play?

A friend has totaled his 1995 Impreza L Coupe (EJ18 with 5MT). It just got a new clutch and everything. He's offered me the whole car for $300, making it very tempting for me to not buy the pistol I've been wanting and just buy this car as a doner car.

My question is, would the 5MT swap into my 1998 Legacy L if I got a EJ22 5MT ECU? I'm wanting this to be plug and play so I could possibly turn the conversion in a 5 day period. However, if anyone has the wiring diagrams I'd need to make it work correctly, I would probably still do it.

Subaru-less :(

yeah.. it can be done you don't need the ecu ... i would want a tranny that was newer ..

the biggest pain is changing the peddle box .. you then move the nuteral postion switch to the clutch peddle switch ...

look around in the transmission fourm

Wrx Tranny,slowr than ish

its been done, like he said, peddle box is a PITA!!!! if you can, remove steering column, it will help tons. $300 for all those goodies is nice....but i would do some searching to see if the impreza EJ18 5MT gear ratios are different from the legacy trannys....i dont think they are but they might be. legacy afterall has/had the EJ22 with more power. but it will bolt right up. as far as wiring goes, you will need to locate the wire that tells the ECU that it is a MT ECU or AT ECU. its only 1 wire, you basically cut it and it thinks its a manual ECU now. then you can get rid of the TCU wiring if you want to. do some searching and you'll find your answers. also, look for "5MT and AWD swap" by legacy777, his website has all the info you need to know.
