Wink Brand New Legacy owner - lot of questions!

Hi everyone - this is my very first post!

I just bought a Subaru Legacy 2.5i Special Edition in Toronto, Canada. I am really excited. I haven't picked the car up yet because it hasn't arrived.

Meanwhile i have loads of questions i hope you guys will help me with

1. Should i get extended warranty?
2. What is the best way to keep the car looking like new - should i go for the paint protection the dealer is pushing?
3. Should i install that 3M film in the front of the hood?
4. How many miles should i see on it when i get the keys?
5. Any other advice you have?

FYI This is my first ever Subaru and first time buying a brand new car out of a dealership. I owned a 93 civic and then a 2001 Accord coupe which i am now trying to sell!

1. depends on how long you expect to keep the car. I'd say no if your answer is less than 100,000 MILES.
2. good wax, frequent washes, and park away from other cars...i'd skip the paint protection.
3. get a rockblocker kit direct and have it installed on front bumper/hood/headlights.
4. less than 20 miles?
5. have fun and don't think AWD makes you invincible.

Go to the toronto-subaru-club.com board. There is a thread about 3M stone guard and who installs for a good price.
Skip the dealer paint crap.
Skip the extended warrantee.
If you are the handy type, you can order invinca shield on-line with an install kit and do it yourself. Now is definitely the time to do the stone shield stuff.
Don't sweat the number of miles on it unless it has over 100.

If you treat the car right and do all the regular maintenance, I don't see a need for an extended warranty. My car has 206K miles on it, running strong. Obviously there have been issues along the way after the warranty expired, but the only major one was the head gaskets and that it is a known defect in these models. If you don't want to do the work yourself, find a local shop you can trust with your Scooby and have them do all the regular maintenance when it comes up. Hopefully you will see 200K+ also

Let us know how you like the car, and of course pics!

Anyone know of a good place to get the 3m rockshield installed in pittsburgh? Also about how much does it cost to get the bumper/mirrors/ hood done? Are these the recommended areas to cover?

I just picked up my 06 LGT sedan 3 weeks ago and opted for the gold extended warranty just cause it makes sence to me. 5years\100k miles and all issues would be covered no matter where I am. I am a dunce when it comes to mechanical work. give me a computer and I can do anything I need to do to it, but a car, I won't go there. Just look at what is covered, what the prices are for those services and what now, and see if the PIECE OF MIND of having these covered is for your. The warranties are not for everyone, but for me it was a no brainer. I was so happy I had it on the Baja when It it needed a bunch of work outside of the 36k bumper to bumper.
