Angry Intake mini-update...

I am taking my 2kGT Wagon into the shop tomorrow for the infamous AFSensor/ECM-Glitch Check-engine light, and "just in case" I pulled my Home Depot intake pipe off and put the stock boxes back on (took 10 minutes), no big deal right?

Torque - gone
Throttle Response - gone
Muffler Growl - gone

WOW I did not believe that a $9 worth of heat-duct would make such a difference... <sigh>

First thing I do when I am done with this warranty work I am putting it back on, not gonna wait a minute longer than I have to.

And FYI - I don't know University VW/Audi/Subaru's position on mods, that is why I am being cautious... I'll feel them out tomorrow and see if they are cool with everything (I just don't wanna be hassled all the time).

Hey Randy,

I have no mods to my wife's Y2K Legacy and I've had the same AFS problem. In fact, it caused some kind of non-terminal short in the computer and they had to replace that as well.

Thank God for warranty. I'd hate to find out how much a new computer costs.

Tell me more about your Home Depot intake. Where does the piping go? Do you still have the stock box?

Also, I haven't heard about the AF Sensor problem. What are the symptoms other than the CE light?

Bob -

I am going to make a HowTo when I change it back, I'll take lots of pics...

Symptoms besides idiot light: runs *very* rich in-city, lots of smelly-eggs. Did not adjust to variations in altitude well: I drove to Spokane and got 30mpg on the top half of the tank of gas (240 miles) and then in-city driving it drove like crap, no power, smelly eggs, etc, and got about 80 miles on the bottom half of the tank (runnuing it to the light), but filled up, got ~25mpg going back to Seattle, and everything is back to "almost better"... We'll see how much of this gets fixed by the warranty...


UPDATE: 100% fixed. They had all of the parts in: A/F Sensor and ECM replaced. Kartboy shifter and bushings are in my hands as I type (kinda hard to type while I hold them ) Shifter goes in tonight. Intake Re-Goes in tonight (with *lots* of pics). Bushings go in this weekend.
