Question Solo II

Hey, I just wonder, being new here, are any of you legacy guys going to run solo II in the N.E.R? Or is this type of racing more approriate for the smaller "Imp's"?

This may or may not fit your Q...

I've been dying to go Solo II in my GT Wagon (when I looked last season, the GTs are in the ES class. I have no idea if or how the classes have changed now that all the Legacies have the same 2.5l engine ). Unfortunately, time and fundage are preventing it...

Also, I'm not in the NE (N.E.R. = North East Region?)

While I doubt that the Legacy would be competitive on the national level (The Legacy GT and the new Celica are in the same class?! ), I think that it'd do pretty well and simply be a hoot to do...

Just my 2˘,

Yeah, i got the new rule book and they do have us (me with a turbo) in with some quick, and more importantly, nimble little cars (Stock class E) but it seems that for $15 and an scca membership, its good fun for the money, so i think i will run it. Dont know what im in for but its bound to be fun..

I also have NO plans to pass a techincal in stock class by this time next year with all the goodies I have planned for this car so I will take it as practice.

I live in CT, but don't run the real SCCA events - too far to be worth the drive. However, I raced with a club called CART (CT Auto-x and Rally Team) last year. I've only been to three events total. There were a couple 2.5RS's (at least one, sometimes two or three), my '99 Legacy 2.5GT, and a guy running an older Legacy Turbo (both of us are listed in the member's section in CT).

As for how our BIG cars do with the more nimble little cars? Well, just ask the guy driving the '99 2.5RS with 17" rims and Z-rated tires (other mods possibly, I didn't ask) at my second event. He and I were both in Novice, and I ran a 56.3 to his 58.0 (or something like that). Hee hee.

I won the Novice class that time, so I graduated to ES (even though I have an 18mm sway bar, they said "don't worry about it", and I said "ummm, OK"). I took second place behind an early 90s Integra on racing tires. I finally had good tires (Yoko Nexus), and I was only 0.5sec behind him on a 60+ sec course. On the same course the Turbo was a few seconds slower than me.

To make a long story even longer, when I won the Novice class I ran a 56.346, and the owner of the Turbo ran a 59.346. Then Jeff Denmeade (took 5th place in last year's One Lap of America in his Mitsu Lancer Evo V) drove that same Turbo to a 56.037. So, yes, Legacy's can do very well auto-xing.

Well, I am going to run the turbo completely stock (and probably a little tired) just to get a feel for it. Then start with the Mods. I also have a new short block in the budget this summer so my aim is to keep this car around for a while!

I really prefer unpaved rally type stuff but from what I hear, until you get up to Pro-Rally, these "tsd" things are just a map reading test.-Tell me i am wrong here (please?!?)

I think I will go over and check in the New England section of I-club and see if any of them are running it. The first is coming up Apr 9.

Thanks 4 the input.

Hey flat four,
I don't know exactly where you are but I auto-x in albany NY. If you ever want to make the trip, check out a MOHUD area SCCA event. (if you come out the P-lot is fun, the air force base is better, but the Brodie is in Mass.) I race my 97 GT sedan. I suprised a lot of cars by the end of the summer, my last three races were a 3rd, 2nd, and finally a 1st(but that was down state in another region).
Good luck and maybe I'll see you sometime!
